Might be a little hard to come up with an average figure; looking at my family tree the number of descendants has been going down, in some cases radically, for the last 150 years. My "tree" has its "roots" in the air and visually the trunk in the ground!

Thanks, but I guess I meant as a general trend in statistical terms.

Mostly 30 yrs and sometimes 25 yrs are used of one GD, so you end up with 5 or 6 generations. Now it is a matter of Math only, 2+4+8+16+32=62 max for 6 and 30 for 5 generations.

I have been trying to do this type of genealogy in my own family tree for a number of years. I rather like the following webpage on the subject...

The most interesting part is for me is the table about a third down which looks at birth rates in different countries and that someone born today in Singapore will only have 2.7 4th cousins whist someone born in the country of Niger today will have a staggering 352,000 4th cousins.
