My Maternal Grandfather's MTDA is R5 or R5a2. Anyone have information on this? Seems Dravidian-related.

R5a2 is pan south Asian not necessarily south Indian . One particular subclade shows high frequency among south Indian tribals

I am from Southern India (with R5a2 on 23andMe and R5a2b on Nat Geo/Helix) and 23andMe and one another paper says R5 is predominantly south Indian. It is quite possible because of the antiquity of R5 it might have spread to all the way north. Also, R came from North to South and so R5 variations might have developed long ago and probably only flourished in the south and died in the north.
