I'm looking into a subgroup of our surname project (Vance) that is R1b-L2 (we call them Group 8). To my knowledge they have not tested further SNPs.

The interesting part of this subgroup is its distribution: of 21 kits, 2/3rds are descended from several men born in the late 1700s who emigrated (known or believed) from Northern Ireland to the US, several lines are still living in Ireland, and one (named Hay, the only non-Vance in the subgroup) is in Australia descended from an original immigrant to Australia also from the late 1700s from Nairn, Scotland. So the MRCA is likely either from Scotland OR Ireland from the mid-1700s or earlier. We have a lot of detail on the group's history collected a few years ago by Adam Bradford.

This is the modal haplotype for the subgroup out to 111 markers. From Richard Rocca's post of L2 STR signatures (http://www.anthrogenica.com/showthread.php?5085-19-Subclades-and-Counting-L2-subclades-and-their-modal-values), this looks like a Z49+ group. Do the STRs (or the group's history) suggest any other SNPs I should advise them to test for?
