My terminal with FTDNA is, I1-F2642. I have tested further with YSEQ, forseveral of the newer SNP's found by Big Y & others. But, the place of origin for F2642 is not known, nor, has a date been attributed to any of these newer SNP's. At least, not to my knowledge. My current terminal results are "I1-F2642+Y1884/FGC2491/S2158+ [03a] A1346+, [03] FGC23286+, A1516, A1517, A1518". Because I1's are believed to be of Scandinavian origins, I am using DNA to help me find out where my ancestors, before they came to the Colonies, came from. Ireland & Scotland are the two countries where I have concentrated my research, without success. England is another place of interest, but, nearly all Montgomerys came from the two former countries. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't know about your particular case, but I believe Montgomery is a surname of Norman origin.

Probably the y haplogroup I subforum is the best place for this thread, however.

I am I-F2642, have you joined the Haplogroup I-Z140 DNA Project on FTDNA? I1 can be of varying origins be it Scandinavian or Continental Germanic when looking within the British Isles. With a surname like Montgomery perhaps a Norman origin? The surname Montgomery could have origins in England, Scotland or Northern Ireland (Ulster-Scots).

Are you a member of the Montgomery DNA Project if there is such a thing?
