To date on mtDNA j1c8 I have been able to trace back to Thorncombe, Devon (Dorset) England, when Ann Pinson married Michael Bowditch on the 4th November 1655. On FTDNA my 18 perfect matches for J1c8 list their origins as: England, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. Who has registered their autosomal dna on gedmatch? By utilising the Gedmatch one to one comparison tool, I have been able to establish the closeness of a mtDNA perfect match relation on autosomal dna (4.2cM with 7262 SNPs).

My gedmatch id's are M936999 for 23&me and F151463 for Ftdna, if you'd like to compare.

I have it traced to a Nancy Tompkins in Rowan County, North Carolina in 1764. But I can't say for certain where the line originated outside of the US. I have a distant cousin (3rd to 5th range) who belongs to J1c8 as well. She immigrated with her parents to the US in the 50's from Yugoslavia, though her ethnic group is "Donauschwaben"or Danube Swabian. All of my familial lines are from the US, so this cousin may give a hint to my maternal lines true origin.

Using the www.gedmatch.com "one to one" autosomal tool with the minimum thresholds changed to 3.0 cM and 300 SNPs the results are:
