Kit 134946 of Ireland received his Z156 SNP Pack results. He is R-Z156* .

I post this as yet another example of what we all must remember: SNP packs do not guarantee to identify any downstream clade at all.

In contrast, kit 264842 of Germany tested S5556+ . (Both men are friends of mine.)

Exactly, because by definition they test only known SNPs. No breakthroughs are possible with SNP Packs, except maybe to better layer existing clades.

Only an NGS type test will uncover "new" SNPs. 134946 needs to go that path.

According to YFull (http://yfull.com/tree/R-S264/), Z156 has a TMRCA of 4900 ybp. (Michał would say 5400-5900 ybp.) Thus, #134946 diverged from the well-investigated lines almost 5000 years ago.

That surely was a total waste of money. But there might be still many Z156* who have got there NGS done and none of those SNPs were on the SNP Pack Penal, but some of those SNPs might be included in the Geno 2.0 NG, that is why I say that it is a better test in such cases and now add to that the mtDNA and aDNA bonus which makes Geno 2.0 NG a much better deal.

It was only a waste of money if the person was not going to invest in a full y sequencing product. The SNP packs and panels are a solution for those who cannot afford the more expensive options. In older clades we have singleton branches. Generally if there is no named SNP we cannot consider placing them them onto a pack. If they they have a PH, CTS, S series.... named SNP then, if space permits, we will look at adding them into a pack as bait. Hopefully this week we will get the Z156 pack current results reviewed and determine what revisions could be made for an updated release to cover the next 4-6 months of usage.

Geno 2 NG would not be a better choice for any y results since it has a cutoff of what was included by FTDNA from Big-Y results. FTDNA did not have a solid understanding of the results they had present in the Big-Y results.
