For anyone who is R-U106, will you be ordering the National Geographic 'Geno 2.0 - Genographic Project Participation and DNA Ancestry Kit'?

I am a little surprised that only 3 people have voted so far. Do you suppose that there are very few R1b-U106 on the forum?

Anthrogenica is only a week old. Rest assured more individuals with Y-DNA R1b-U106 should eventually join the forum.

I'm not Y-DNA R1b-U106 so I'm out. :P

I didn't vote. I would LIKE to order for my cousin who is U106+ , L48+ , and L47- , but he won't give any more spit, even if I pay for it. Too bad. He is the direct link to our grandfather's unknown ancestry.

I'm currently tested as far as the (known) ISOGG tree goes. I will be waiting to see what SNPs are on the chip and whether it's of any value for me to test.

It would be great for R-U106 if the likes of Peter Op den Velde Boots, Charles Moore, Vincent Tilroe, Gregory Magoon, Mike Maddi, Gary Corbett et al. joined this forum.

I've taken the plunge and ordered the Nat Geno 2.0 Test. Given the fact I'm already WAY down the tree (a family/private SNP below Z6) I don't expect to further refine my haplogroup. Instead, I'm more interested in what new SNPs are found in the chip (and given my level on the tree it hopefully can be helpful to others).

I've ordered it as well... Don't think I'll hit anything on the Y side (Z346+), but I'm hoping for some other info on the Mt and autosomal side.

I am going to sit back for awhile I am Z305,6.7+ waiting on L128.

I've put the word about in places they tend to haunt. Wouldn't hurt to email them directly if you have their addys.

What's the hurry?? It sounds like it may revolutionize things but don't I recall that they won't even begin actually testing until October?

Which Kit # are you? Looks like we're going to have Z1 well covered in Geno 2.0.

Hi David, Kit# N29457- Kelty

OK, now I know who you are. Good to see your corner of Z1 is covered. But I cautiously add that at this point we don't know if these tests are going to tell us anything new about Z1 or not.

I agree Clinton, it would be good to see those individuals join the forum.

I personally will hold off for quite a while on spending mone money on DNA tests. I feel cheated a bit, after upgrading mine once & then doing a SNP test after the initial investment, and then here comes yet another test I need to pull the trigger on. I was extremely lucky to have my 37 upgraded to 111 on a donation and will be very quick to point that out. But i am going to be cranky over this new option for a while. At this point, I feel I ought to wait 2 years for the next big one to get released. :\

My distant cousin is U106, but passed away recently. Has DNA stored at FTDNA and we are hoping it can be used eventually for this test.

We always thought this line was 'Mason', new information is that an NPE occurred in the 1700s and 'Raisbeck' from Stanhope in County Durham, England is this line!

I have two on order. One will go for my U106* uncle. The 2nd one may go a little upstream to a R-L277 individual to help fracture the structure in the L23 region. But that is not finalized.

Very probably.

It strikes me that an option is missing from this poll, namely:

I will wait until we are told what SNPs are on the chip.

As has been reported elsewhere, my Geno 2.0 kit as well as that of various others are now reported to have been shipped

Word is that there are over 500,000 Geno 2 participants already.

[edit] but it's thought that this the total of Geno 1 and Geno 2 participants, which sounds more reasonable given the recency of this product..

VinceT

Yes, that's total Geno participants. Typical NGS hype.

I have created a spreadsheet of U106+ folks who have ordered the Geno 2.0 test. Hopefully I won't be totally overwhelmed by the new SNPs discovered and be able to document who has tested positive/negative for SNPs below U106. As always, open to suggestions, constructive criticism, etc. to make the spreadsheet better for everyone.

Ray

EDIT: Oops! It would help if I actually include the link to this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Av9lu-SZDcLodFR1Ump6a0lCTmlqUTNjd3Jwd2VIbUE#gid=0

New NatGeo Geno 2.0 List of Y-DNA SNPs

Looks like over 12,400 ... some Known old ones (up to Nov 2011) ... but many new ones.

Need help in IDing major Haplogroups these SNPs belong to.

See Excel XLS File at: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62323876/NATGEO_YDNA_SNPS.xls

I'm waiting for the Family Finder upgrade to Geno 2.0. I'm very cheap and also patient when it comes to DNA tests. Hopefully the "upgrade" from FF will be available soon?

See http://dna-explained.com/2012/11/13/family-tree-dna-conference-2012-nits-and-grits

"Bennett also said that he expects that National Geographic will, in 2013 sometime, decide to allow upgrades from Family Tree DNA clients for the Geno 2.0 product. This will allow those people who cannot obtain a new sample to participate as well. However, an unopened vial will be required. No promises as to when, and the decision is not his to make."

As regards the topic of this thread, I am now waiting to see where these "new" Geno 2 SNPs sit on the tree. There may yet be some gold for me in the CTS series (assuming FTDNA also make them testable as individual SNPs).
