My father is T1a1, more than two years ago he did the full mitochondrial sequence but until now didn't get a single full sequence match. Instead he has lots of HVR2 matches. Almost every week he gets a bunch of them. This haplogroup seems to have expanded quickly in a short amount of time. This is the distribution of the HVR2 matches:

Quite a few in Britain, the Cladh Hallan dig on Uist was 1200BC, so the Viking theory is shot out of the water!
