Lithuanians do appear internally very similar, across several autosomal studies.

Unfortunately I'm sharing with too many people to use the One-to-Many compare function.

I have the same problem as AJL, I can only use the one-to-one feature rather than one-to-many. So comparisons can still be made, but they are extremely tedious.

I should also note that it makes a difference which chip versions are involved. For example, I show 76.00% similarity to one individual. My father only shows 74.32% similarity with this same individual. However, my father has only been tested on the v2 chip, where I have been tested on both v2 and v3. I suspect the other party, the one to whom I've compared each of us, has also tested on both v2 and v3. Now, here's the interesting thing: he and my father actually share a small segment (6 Mb) on chromosome 10. He and I do not show any sharing.

My guess is that if my father had been tested on the v3 chip, his similarity with this other person would likely be higher than mine. What seems to be the case, at least to the extent that I've gone one-by-one through Compare Genes, sharing over 76% makes it reasonably likely that a person may prove to be a detectable cousin. By that I mean, detectable in Relative Finder. Of course, this might also vary according to the ethnic backgrounds of the parties involved.

In the case I mentioned, RF was say the individual is related to my father but not to me. Of course, if he is related to my father, he must also be related to me -- though conceivably we might have no shared segments, as Relative Finder suggests. My hunch, though, is that if we reduced the minimum sharing required for a match, we'd also find one or more shared segments.

In theory, high similarity could be just "luck", because what's being compared here is simply the percentage of SNPs two people have in common. However, the reality is also that what makes an ethnicity is actually shared ancestry, so two random people from the same ethnic group are likely to be more closely related to each other than to a random person from a different ethnic group. That's "all else being equal", of course.

Thanks for the welcome! Actually my grandparents are not from the Caucasus, my paternal grandparents are from Caesarea (hence my ID) which is located in central Anatolia. Caesarea was named after Caesarea the Great of Roman times.

Thanks for the info. Have you noticed any difference between Western and Eastern Armenians?

Absolutely, my parents and I speak Western Armenian dialect. For me it's sometimes difficult to understand the Eastern Armenian dialect.
