MyGenome by Veritas Genomics is a Whole Genome Secquencing made via Illumina HiSeq X Ten.
The company has some big brains behind, like George Church (Harvard) wich was a founder of Knome and worked in the Personal Genome Program. The company also sells two genotype tests for cancer (specially designed for women, as the BCRA is the "star gen" here, and ovarian and breasts cancers are their main focus) for only 199/299u$s
PROs:
* the cheapest test in the market, 30x, WGS
* they provide FREE a medical counseling with each test, as they are pointing to the health comunity market.
* they say they will also provide Genealogy data
* they contact the customers with health profesional in case they need to analyze better the WGS
* they have their own equipment, so the times to get the results will be better than other sites (they promise to make only 5,000 tests this year, to keep things going well -an knowing that their Illumina HiSeq X Ten gets 18,000 per year is a good number)
* they say information is private, BUT can be shared by the customers with others via app
* they provide a nice visual app to get the info about the markers
* being the real first breach of the one thousand WGS Test, we can expect others to follow the path and lower prices (wishfull thinking, here)
CONTRAs:
* ONLY IN USA
* ONLY VIA A DOCTOR (they will permit ANY doctor, as they not have any secret arrangement, and they put this requisite to pass the FDA barriers -FDA is trying to ban all the genetic tests sold to final customers that include medical data)
* Is your data REALLY PRIVATE? Donīt say that anywhere. So, we donīt know if they will use it for their own medical studies or sell to a third party for research. So Privacy is a big Aenigma
* Not genealogy-friendly: all of their scientific stuff comes from Pharma, medical and genetic machines industry. Not having a genealogy advisor, will lead to a mess in data, not updated Haplotype trees, customers crying cause their SNP are private but know about others with the same SNP (and ask the company to list the new SNP as public and not get a proper answer), and so on... if FTDA being a genealogic enterprise is very bad keeping the things in order, expect Veritas to have worst service there.
* As is a medical oriented test, FDA vultures are flying near them (nobody knows if FDA will try to stop or mess with tests and change their policy as made with 23andme)
* No early customers to share experiences. You will be the rat lab (but knowing the Illumina equipment and the Church advisory, it will be as good as at least hte median of the other companies here)
