So it looks like AncestryDNA is currently in BETA testing for an update to its results.

Anyone here have any information on this? I hope they roll this out soon. My current Ancestry results are a bit off. I have used my Ancestry data to get results from: McDonald, DNA Tribes, DNA.Land and from Wesolowski. They all agree with each other in broad strokes (I.e. at the continental level), but differ from Ancestry's results.

What I have read is that Ancestry will be updating their DNA Cousins list or their methods for choosing these. Perhaps they will also do an ethnic update. I know their Community Boards have been frozen until mid April, which is today, or perhaps tomorrow. Maybe they are about to release something new, after all. Of course, new does not always translate as better. We'll see.

On the site it shows DNA circles are also in beta, so I guess they are reworking that as well. Curious to see the Ancestry update.

I'm very interested in how their new breakdown for Asia will eventually pan out. Looks very promising; they've divided it quite nicely in comparison to before:

Here is a blog from Roberta Estes. It updates the situation at Ancestry DNA: https://dna-explained.com/

No changes here yet.

That change only affects their matching algorithm. Their Admixture Estimates are, as of yet, unchanged. No announcement on when that will happen.

Frankly, I don't use Ancestry to determine matches. Despite their having the largest databse of DNA users, their genealogy tools are terrible. They don't even have a chromosome browser. So this "update" is a big nothingburger as far as I am concerned. And there is no information on when they will roll out the admixture component out of BETA testing.

True. I have convinced some of my closest matches to upload to Gedmatch, but I wish there was a chromosome browser.

True. I have convinced some of my closest matches to upload to Gedmatch, but I wish there was a chromosome browser.

Whenever experts on our side of things have asked Ancestry about a Chromosome Browser, they have said that they will not be adding one. From memory, they added words to the effect that a Chromosome Browser is beyond what a typical Ancestry user wants.

So "wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin', plannin' and dreamin'.." to quote Dusty Springfield; will not get you a Chromosome Browser on Ancestry. Polish your convincin' - to get people to upload to GEDmatch.
And if you get good at it, please let us know how you do it, because it can be hard. A start is to provide step-by-step instructions, but I am sure you already know that.

The matching algorithm update went into effect today for me! Hopefully ethnicity estimates won't be too far away.
