Tiki Taane is the man. "Shadows" by him is one of my favourite Tiki Taane songs.

An Anglican hymn from the Solomon Islands, somehow much more beautiful in Pijin:

Good find my friend!

I've become very fond of many South Pacific artists, the sound often makes me think of classic reggae or calypso, which I both admire. Another beautiful one from New Caledonia, a sad song about a shipwreck:

This is the new international trailer for Moana and I quite like the music used in this.

Yes, there is a big Moluccan community in the Netherlands. In 1951 about 12.000 Moluccan soldiers + famlies (my grandparents for example) were forced to go to the Netherlands. They had fought side by side with the Dutch against the Indonesians (The former Dutch East Indies). They were promised to have an own republic, the South Moluccan Republic (RMS - Republiek Maluku Selatan) but sadly enough it never came. This year was "special" because it was 65 years ago ;)

Traditional Maluku dance and song in our Native language. About the mother island 'Nusa Ina' and the sacred mountain NUNUSAKU and it's 3 rivers which we believe our ancestors came down from. The rivers Wai-Tala, Wai-Eti and Wai-Sapalewa

This is great! It reminds me of Maori songs, but considering they are all Austronesian people this isn't surprising.

Thanks Balkankiwi ;) But we the native people from Maluku are Papuan/Melanesian people instead of Austronesians/Asians, yes through the centuries mixed with Austronesians and may have adopted the languages etc and the other way around. But some islands of east Indonesia still speak Papuan languages, like Halmahera, Alor, Timor etc. Some linguistic studies say that the languages from east indonesia have more in common with Papua/Melanesia.

Some pictures of the native tribe (which I belong) in the early 1900;

These are excellent! The Papuan features are clearly evident. I might start a thread for Oceanian images.

Last saturday we had a meeting of people from the Tanimbar Islands (Maluku) who live in the Netherlands.
This is a traditional dance/song from Tanimbar. My mother is from Tanimbar. Enjoy ;)

I thought I'd share this wedding with a haka performed involving the bride and groom.
