thanks
I was told MLJ represented Mali-Losinj
Mljet makes more sense as its near dubrovnik and home to the ancient
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narentines
and later in time came under

I have recently discovered my great grandfather came from the Island of Lošinj (Lussin, Austria at the time of his birth), having been born there about 1857, arriving in Australia in 1877. The name he has used in Australia was Dominic Carles, which doesn't have any Croatian 'ring' to it at all! His paternal grandson's DNA path is T-M184 — T-L490 — T-M70.

I am chasing another T-M70 from Lussin Croatia....surname Steiner ( Giovanni and I seen records for his father Alvise ( Alvise is venetian form for Luigi ))...........originally from a town called Barbian in South Tyrol Italy ( high in the alps ) ............was in Barbian in the 1730
Is this any link to you ?

Dominic Carles ...............would have been Domenico Carlesso if you think he was north italian .................there are 466 housholds in italy with surname Carlesso of which only 27 are not in north italy

Thank you for your response. At this stage I have no idea if there is any link, just yet. I am seeking the Crew Agreement from one of the ships on which my Dominic Carles served, which will hopefully give a more precise surname/family name.

I had a quick look to see if the name was associated with trieste ....it is not..............trieste was never ever venetian or under venice in its history ( even though they spoke venetian ) and only italian in recent times, before this it was mainly austrian

The first one is from branch T1a1 and on yfull is linked with viking VK17 ......................VK17 admixture is Swedish and Finnish 50-50 split
Other T1a1 are neolithic times as per the 2x Bulgarians from Malek ....also, the Golden man from bulgaria near the black sea and a few others .............these 2 T-bulgarians share the exact same snp's as the 3 x Karsdorf Germany neolitihic samples
CTS933 belongs to the T1a2 branch .............an ancient sample would be CL23 and another viking VK398
