My grandfather who is of 100% Italian ancestry from the Calabria region has received some rather strange Ancestry Composition results. They are strange in the way that he scores quite a bit higher in the Finnish category than any other Southern Italians that I have seen. Here are his results below in the sub-regional breakdown.

81.8% European

Southern European

50.4% Italian
0.5% Balkan
16.5% Nonspecific Southern European

Northern European

3.2% Finnish
0.2% British and Irish
0.7% Nonspecific Northern European

10.3% Nonspecific European

5.8% Middle Eastern and North African
5.8% Middle Eastern
<0.1% Nonspecific Middle Eastern and North African

<0.1% Sub-Saharan African

12.4% Unassigned

So I find his Finnish score of 3.2% to be very odd for someone who's ancestors came from the Calabria region of Italy. For comparison sake here are his Eurogenes K36 results below where he shows 0% in the Fennoscandian category.

So what would account for his 3.2% Finnish in his Ancestry Composition results I wonder?

Maybe IBS segments?

Maybe IBS segments?

Hmm could be AJL I'm not really sure. A poster on another forum I am a member of told me that 81.8% European is a very unusual score for a Calabrian as well. :\
