I have more, but I'll save them for subsequent posts.
Nice cool October evening here. Seems appropriate for posting tombstones somehow.
Here are the names of my second great grandparents on the base of that cross: James Holmes Stevens and Olive Augusta Washburn Stevens.

Here are some tombstones of relatives from an abandoned graveyard in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. I know these are relatives from y-dna matches.

I always like seeing those.
I loved it when I first stumbled upon one of my ancestor's tombstones.

You know, I have a student this year whose last name is McBride. Nice girl and very bright.
Here is the tombstone of another known relative via a y-dna match, Samuel Stephens, 1799-1855, from the New Market United Methodist Church cemetery in New Market, Maryland. Next to him is his wife Nancy.

My second cousin Paul just sent me the following photos of the tombstones of my great grandfather James Holmes Stevens Jr. and my grandfather Clifton L. Stevens in Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans.

A very nice plot.
Are those sea shells I see laid on thier tomb?
It reminds me of the the old Jewish tradition of placing a stone on a grave after you've visited.

I always like see these too. Thanks for showing them.
I have photographed my ancestors headstones too. The ones made of Slate seem to have survived the ravages of time and pollution best.
Cheers, Ade.
This is my first Father's Day without my dad here on earth. Yet I celebrate the great dad he was and is, with the knowledge that I'll see him again someday.
Anyway, his permanent tombstone is now in place in the veterans' cemetery where he is buried. My dad is buried in a new section of the cemetery, so the landscaping, laying of sod, etc., haven't been finished yet. It should all be nice and green soon.

A very nice tombstone!
May Perpetual Light Shine Down Upon Him. R.I.P.
I’ve alway loved that style of tombstone. I used to live down the street from the Military Cemetery in St. Augustine and would often walk the grounds there. The marble is beautiful and the fomat is clean and simple and very appealing.

ATCS is Aviation Electronics Technician Senior Chief Petty Officer (Aviation Technician Chief Senior).
My mom went out to my dad's gravesite for his birthday (yesterday) and took this photo. His tombstone looks better, and they planted sod there, so there's green grass.

Here's the tombstone of a relative who's buried in Crawford County, Ohio. I was pretty sure he was a y-line relative before, but back on the 4th of January a 110/111 match with a descendant of his came in and confirmed it.

Today marks exactly one year since my dad passed away. I miss him. It's hard, but that's what life is: hard. I hope to see him again someday.

Eternal Rest Grant Unto Him, O Lord,
and Let Perpetual Light Shine Down Upon Him.
May He Rest In Peace.
In the old days, I used to have a M1 Carbine like his.

I had an M1 Carbine myself, and I'm sorry I sold it. It was a wonderful weapon. Of course, I just used it to shoot empty beer bottles and cans.

Pretty much the same here. I used mine for target shooting and plinking but eventually sold it and moved onto something else. They were beautiful, light and handy.
I was blessed to have a father as kind and good as my dad was. Seems to me such a father helped me to believe in God, because he showed me what God the Father is like. My dad meant the world to me.
