I got a Y-haplogroup from 23andme as J1 and then did a confirmation test with FTDNA and got a confirmation as J-M267 with no subgroups. From what information I have, what is some research that I can do to put some more light on my paternal heritage ?

You can choose FTDNA Y-37, J1 SNP Pack, YSeq J1 Panel or FGC tests, depends on your interest and resources.

As I had same issue before ,I think J1 SNP Pack is the best choice

I did the FTDNA 37 marker test, but have no matches at 25 and 37 markers. The only matches are at 12-markers with only two of them at distance 0, both of whom are not from the Indian Subcontinent. At the moment I cannot do any further testing as of now. Is it likely that the subgroup from one of the matches could likely also be my subgroup?

What's your kit number?

Line 899 of Table 3 of http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1380230/?tool=pubmed
is a Sindhi case which may be of your branch. When you give your FTDNA kit number we can compare STRs.

OK, pantheratigris is almost certainly a J1 Z1842. Anybody have a theory on how that line got from Anatolia to Sindh?

Pantheratigris can also be PF7261 because they have found HG03767 PJL - Punjabi in Lahore, Pakistan

Okay for all those who are interested in this thread, I used used the haplogroup prediction tool at Nevgen.org, and I got a result of J1a3-Z1828 with a 100 probability value, and one of the moderators in the FtDna J1 project predicts my group to be Z1842 which seems like a subgroup of the Z1828 on the tree.(Thanks to J1 DYS388=13 and RCO for their inputs). I have no matches at 25 and 37 markers. The other distant matches at 12 markers are
Distance 0:
1 Armenian
1 Iranian (Jewish I think)
Distance 1:
(French, Armenians, Assyrian, Chechens, Dagestanis, Russian, Greeks from Turkey, Laz, Afghan)

If you are willing to assume you are on the same SNP branch as that Afghan to whom I called your attention, then estimate the age of your common ancestor by STR differences using the free tool at http://clan-donald-usa.org/index.php/tmrca-calculator
