Hi guys

I recently got my Geno 2.0 Results with terminal SNP's to add to my FTDNA results. Before they predicted my group as R1b1a2 but not it is only R1b and Geno 2.0 gives my last branch as L278. What does this mean and is there a way to find out what population group it belonged to?

Hello, the most current haplogroup tree we have is ISOGG's. Here is there web page for the haplogroup R1b, which you are in.
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/r1b/default.aspx

R1b1 L278, M415/PF6251, P25_1, P25_2, P25_3

You can see they list L278 as equivalent to the more well known P25. You can see P25 listed in the tree chart below. You can think of it as a human family tree for paternal lineages.

As far as consumer DNA testing goes, most R1b folks are under the P297 and M269 boxes on the tree. If you are P297- that would be important to know as well as if you are V88-. That would make you fairly unusual and possibly related to folks in Southwest Asia or Southeast Europe.

We need to get help from a project administrator who specializes in this. The best way to start is join the R1b Gateway project and your list your kit # on the related Yahoo group or here so we can look at it in greater detail?

Have you done any Y STR testing?
