    Was George Washington L21+DF13?

Abraham Lincoln was without a doubt U152+L2+, but the statement on Eupedia that "... George Washington (1732-1799) may well have belonged to the L2 subclade of U152" always seemed too speculative for my liking. Yes, there are some Washingtons that are U152+L2+, but none seem to trace back to George Washington's English born great-grandfather; John Washington. The only kit that claims to descend from John Washington, b. 14 Mar 1631/32 d. before 1662 is kit no. 38080. That kit is predicted R-M269 and has a very distinct STR signature. I ran the STRs through the R1b specific version of the Nevgen haplogroup predictor and it returned the following results:

    R1b L21>DF13> ZZ10>Z253> Z2186>BY2744
    Probability: 100
    Fitness: 90.18
    Fitness 2: 1.24

I've tried in the past to contact the FTDNA Washington Project administrator to see if this kit was interested in further free testing, but never received a reply from the administrator. I'd be nice if someone who is L21 took up an investigative task to find George Washington's true haplogroup. Any takers?

Unfortunately, it would require someone whose Y-DNA comes down from John Washington (mentioned in the first post). If your grandmother's family was related to the Washingtons, then it would not be through your Y-DNA line.

As far as I understand it, Washington's actual remains can be found at his Mount Vernon estate, where I've visited once. Lovely property. The problem is such that things like this are so sacrosanct around here it might be quite some time, possibly decades, for any arrangements to be made to test what remains of the corpse...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon.

I'm not aware of a Nevgen that is capable of this. Do you have a link?
