    23andMe Paternal Haplogroup (Novice Question)

    Dear Community,

I have been looking at the 23andMe scientific details section under Paternal Haplogroup. I understand the paternal lineage in the chart but what do the other ones attached to the main paternal line mean? Does it also mean that i carry those but they just didn't happen to be from my main Paternal Ancestor?

It goes J-m304 to J-m267 however attached to 304 is the group I-m170 and certain subclades and attached to 267 is j-m172 and certain subclades

Sorry btw, Anthrogenica doesn't allow me to post attachments.

    Thank You

Will you upload a screenshot to an image hosting site such as www.imgur.com then post a link to it?

The following page might also help you understand the phylogeny - https://www.yfull.com/tree/IJ/

http://i.imgur.com/dCvXGHA.jpg is just what I thought you were looking at.

You do not carry any of the mutations that are not in your branch. The tree is there just to show you where the branches are.

IJ is the ancestor of both I-M710 and J-M304 and J-M304 is the ancestor of J-M267.

If you look at https://www.yfull.com/tree/IJ/ you can see that IJ is at least 42,900 years old which is about when both I (I-M710) and J (J-M304) were born with their respective mutations causing new branches.

Thank you sir, do you know where I can find out more about the mutations? Is Eupedia good, they have a phylogenic tree of J1, thanks.
