    J2a-Z6048

I have been tested and have the haplogroup J2a-Z6048. It seems that I am similar to 1 Iraqi Arab, 2 Southern Italians and many Ashkenazi Jews. I compared the markers and one of the Southern Italians is slightly closer to the Iraqi Arab than the other Southern Italian. The Iraqi Arab is closest to a Jewish person. One Serbian (ethnicity unknown) is also close to these J2a-Z6048 Ashkenazi Jews. What is the origin of this particular form (if you can call it that) of J2a-Z6048? Is it related to Phoenicians, Nabateans, ancient Jews, Romans or ancient Greeks?

    Thanks for your help.

The oldest J2a-Z6048 ever found was in Barcin Anatolia (Neolithic farmer) who lived around 6500-6200 BC or 8500-8200 ybp. Taking a look at Yfull this line moved quite a lot having branches in South Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

You should check for additional snp's to see which particular branch of J2a-Z6048 you belong too. For now your distant paternal ancestor was living somewhere in Anatolia around 8000 years ago, after that we need some more ancient samples to figure it out.

Thank you for your information about the Barcin farmer. Would you recommend the Big Y test?

My pleasure yes I would recommend the Big Y test and right now its on special, its the best time to take advantage, as the next time it will be for sale is probably sometime in November. Think of Big Y as an investment because at the moment you might not get too many matches but you are helping Science and the genetic community it is possible in the future that you may form your own subclade with a other person or persons and it could be quite telling of your paternal ancestry, make sure if you do the Big Y test to transfer your results to Yfull.
