I feel like I've seen this a number of times, and even a Palestinian getting 7% Ashkenazi with AncestryDNA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iqv8S8yZuk8

I think that the algorithms might just get confused by the Jewish ancestry being a mix of Levantine and Mediterranean European, especially since "Sephardi" is more difficult to pinpoint than Ashkenazi. Without it, I'm guessing he would get more "Southeast Europe."

Mine. also I don't think the 80 and 75 are Lebanese Christian and Muslim, but Lebanese and Palestinian or North and South Levant.

I figured it was a common Levant affinity, but just wanted to make sure.

Knowing the actual ethnic background of Ashkenazi and Sephardic people (not full Euro, but not full Levant), I don't think DNA tests should have AJ and SJ categories. It seems as useless as having 'mestizo' and 'mulatto' categories.

My mix for example shows me as 'Ashkenazi' in Single Population Sharing on GEDmatch. Therefore my 23andme Ancestry Composition is a lot closer to the reality of AJ folks minus the AJ dna category.

About some of the SJ in my Dad actually being Southeast European.....That would make a lot of sense, he shows a lot of Cypriot on GEDmatch, and even in Doug McDonald results years ago, (Cypriot being a mix of Greek/Levant).

Couldn't agree more. I mean it would be nice if it were a sorta add-on, at least for Ashkenazi since it's so easy to detect. It's frustrating that we can't see what our breakdown is from the big companies. The only major company that offers it is Living DNA, which gives the most ridiculous results for most non-Western Europeans.

I did regrettably test with TeloYears, which gave a regional breakdown plus detected if any grandparents were (Ashkenazi) Jewish. The results were decent enough, though not perfect, and included detailed Y and mtDNA analyses, but they basically just sent me a PDF and never provided login info for their online portal. All this for like $100.

Interesting. That is just what I was told. Are you speculating that the Lebanese Christian and Lebanese Muslim population samples on K36 have Palestinian Christian and Palestinian Muslim mixed in, respectively?

No, I would hope not haha. Just confusing how it’s laid out. I think they would have more populations than Lebanese.

Just got back my FTDNA Origins:

    Middle Eastern 78%
    Asia Minor 53%
    East Middle East 7%
    North Africa 6%
    West Middle East 12%

    European 11%
    Southeast Europe < 2%
    West and Central Europe 11%

    Jewish Diaspora 8%
    Ashkenazi < 1%
    Sephardic

Don't understand why I received Asia Minor instead of West ME but I guess it is common.
