23andme says 99.8% South Asian, but Harappa only 65% (33% SI, 31% Baloch)

What is your Dodecad K12b result? On Harappa you get 13% NE European, which is a lot for your ancestral homeland.

We are from a relatively steppe rich ethnic group in South Asia. This is shown across various calculators, using Global25 nmonte, as well as from the 2018 Narasimhan study. Here is a list of Dodecad K12b for a lot of my family members plus a few forum members from my ethnic group:

Wow, some are even 16-17% NE. Are the Brahmins in Nepal of some more recent origin? Or is that ancestry 3,500 years old?

The general history of the ethnic group is this -- the migration into Nepal was relatively recently, within the last 1000 years, perhaps even as late as 500 years -- from either the Indian Himalayas from the west as part of the Khas ethnic migration or from the Gangetic plains from the South as stand-alone Brahmin imports. There are lores about both those migrations; two of the most common are: local rulers importing Brahmins for priestly and other activities and Brahmins fleeing the Mughal invasion.

According to Narasimhan 2018, we appear to be genetically close to the Gangetic Brahmins. Using nmonte, we can see relatively high Steppe MLBA, but also very high Saka with similar fits. Basically, Saka is relevant simply because the Khas ethnic group(Nepali Brahmins are part of that group) have likely origin in Central Asia(ancient Indian texts called Khas foreigners) and were likely Indo-Aryanized. Since Nepali Brahmins show significant Saka with good fits, it is possible that we are at least substantially part Central Asian and Brahminized once in India/Nepal.

Or, it might just be the BronzeAge steppe that preserved due to the ethnic group's isolated nature. We do have 7% East Asian admixture per the 2016/2017 paper (93% ANI + 7% ATB ). But in the Narasimhan 2018 paper, the model is only 3-way SteppeMLBA+IVCp+AASI, so likely the East Asian went to AASI. It would be unrealistic that we don't have East Asian given we've lived in the Himalayas for over 500 years at least.

To summarize, the origin could be post-IronAge with half Steppe-rich Saka + half AASI-rich South Asian. Or from the BronzeAge - quarter SteppeMLBA + quarter AASI + half IVCp.
