Thread: What haplogroups do you predict Old to Middle Kingdom Egyptians to have overall?

What haplogroups do you predict Old to Middle Kingdom Egyptians to have overall?

We just got a paper on some Middle Egyptians that only included MtDNA. If we're lucky we might more this year.

Now, what haplogroups would you expect Old to Middle Kingdom Egyptians to have? More Berber ones? Less SSA ones?

    I'd say E-V22, E-V12 (including some branches of V32), E-Z830, E-M34, T1a-Y6671, T1a-Z710 (especially Y4990), T1a-Y15711 and T1a-CTS933 are very likely to have been present.

    As far as mtDNA goes, I think M1a, N1a, HV1b, U6a and R0a will show up alongside T1a, T2, J1d and J2a2.

Why do you think M75 will be found among Old Kingdom Egyptians? I'm honestly intrigued to see the reasoning behind your choice.

Y: Plenty of E1b1b for sure. Other small amounts R1b-V88, A, B, and lesser Levantine neolithic lineages like T and H2. J could be present, but lower frequency the farther back you go in time.
    MT: Plenty of M1, R0a, U6, L3

    Overall, no real surprises.

@Drobbah A Nilotic and or Trans Central Saharan legacy left over from its pastoral founders.
