    "V31" (yet-to-be-named subclade)

    Hi,

I'd just like to chime in with my first topic here about my mtDNA, which is a new subclade of V with five extra mutations. I took FTDNA's fullsequence test and gave my results to both Ian Logan and Genbank to confirm this - I only have four "close" (however, at least 1000+ years ago at genetic distance 2 and 3) matches with people with British Isles ancestry. My direct maternal line traces back to Germany, and probably NW Germany near Bremen. One of my matches on the V-group on FTDNA is grouped into the "V group 31 suggested new subclade," and that group of three people seems to be exclusively German, British, and Norwegian. I also find it interesting that my specific mtDNA is genetically closer to the British samples than the German or the Norwegian ones.

I want to see when and if any ancient groups fall into far rarer subclades of V like this, since I don't think I've seen any just yet. Hopefully, phylotree will include this group in their next update, since there are now three samples of this group on Genbank.

    Also, hello!

A little update: I finally have another GD 2 match for mtDNA - this time tracing back to someone from the Rhineland, Bavaria, or maybe Saarland. I also have another GD 3 match with someone from the British Isles. Perhaps this indeed ended up as a "Germanic" subclade?

Alllright - finally got my first mtDNA GD 0 match, and it's in... Hungary? That is damn surprising.
