Confused DNA results, Please help!

I am Southeast english and apart from my great-great paternal Grandfather who is unknown all my ancestry points towards English. However my gedmatch results show a strong continental pull. Is this typically english being a mix of anglo-saxon/brythonic or am i more like Belgic/franks?

Hi, Which GedMatch calculator did you use? maybe others of SE English decent can add theirs then to see how you might deviate. I can add mine too so you can see how you deviate from a SW Welsh person.

I'd also look at the spreadsheet function, which will let you look at how various populations on average score on the components (from whatever their samples are).

So you look pretty typical to me.

I think that's fairly typical. Most of my ancestry is English as well but in the Eurogenes 13 calculator, the top three single-population listings come up as 1. South Dutch, 2. West German and 3. Orcadian.

I'd say a typical SE English result is British but with plenty of Continental admixture. That admixture most likely originates from lots of immigration events, e.g. Belgae, Anglo-Saxon, Danish, Norman, Angevin and Medieval French, Dutch Stranger, etc. That and the drip drip background of French and Dutch, etc. See my signature link for more results, and documented ancestry.

Yes mate that makes sense. My paper trail is English except an unknown great-great paternal grandfather. Mines very similar to yours although french comes before south west english. Yes it could be the drip of continental admixture. My Y-dna is linked to the North Frankish area and the belgae apparently. Why would south dutch be before South english however? Ill have a read of your link.

I noticed you have a walloon stranger, i also have a non-paternal event on my paternal great-great grandfather as he is unknown. I wonder how i could figure if it was so? Although, he would only contribute around 10% of my dna and my y-dna which doesnt explain the Belgian pull overall.
