Haplogroup W1 but missing a marker - new subclade?

Hi everyone,

So I was assigned to haplogroup W1 by 23andme (after being assigned an L haplogroup by Wegene). After some investigation, I found out that both me and my mom are missing one of the defining markers for haplogroup W (15884) which explains the confusion on Wegene. I emailed Mark Wade from thecid.com and there is one known subclade of W that has reported having 15884G instead of 15884C, W1b1 found in Finland, however, I do not have the other markers for this particular subclade and have been unable to find anything on my situation. I have traced by maternal line back to colonial Virginia and then England.

If anyone has any ideas about what's going on with my mtdna haplogroup, I would really appreciate some feedback.

Just an update: I ordered the mtdna full sequence test and am awaiting the results. Still confused by my 15884G, but hopefully I will learn more with the full sequence results (and see if I have any matches).
