    Jean Manco

A relative of Jean Manco's has posted a 'Notice of Passing' on her 'Anthrogenica' page, which states that Jean passed away on Sunday 25th March following a battle with lymphatic cancer. She will be a great loss to the DNA community. I know she has helped many of us with our research. I gather she lived in Bristol, so hope the local newspaper, the Bristol Post, pays her a worthy tribute. Condolences to the family. Fridurich has kindly posted the sad news on the 'Celtic' forum.
EDIT: My apologies, but I now see that rms2 had already posted the news in 'The Lounge' forum a few days ago.

I remember sitting next to Jean at conferences in Cardiff, Aberystwyth, and Dorset, my copy of Ancestral Journeys in hand, leafing through it trying to follow the speakers. In the meantime, Jean was already ahead of the speaker, having captured the implications of what the speaker had just said, and "hearing" what was left unsaid. What a brilliant person she was.

I nearly attended the Dorset lecture, but something else cropped up at the last minute. I wasn't too concerned at the time as I thought I'd be bound to see her in the future at other venues, but sadly that won't now be the case. It just goes to show that you have to do things now, and not risk waiting. I'm under an hour from where the lecture took place in Dorchester, so an easy trip to have made in order to meet one of the leading lights of the DNA world.

    Very sad to read this.

I attended a talk by Jean a few years ago at Who Do You Think You Are Live in London. She will be sadly missed.

    RIP

    Cheers, Ade.

I too was lucky enough to meet Jean at events in Aberystwyth and Dorset. She was such a friendly person to talk to and so generous in her help and support for others interested in researching in the field.

What a huge loss to Citizen Science and also for her family and friends. Farewell Jean - we will not forget you.

Just a reminder that Jean’s final book is hot off the press https://www.amazon.com/Origins-Anglo.../dp/0500051925 It was published the day before yesterday and my copy from amazon.uk is due in 2 days. Looks like another week or two for amazon.com
