@censored This is really great, thanks!

I think your work clears up any potential Arab or Central Asian ancestry. This is perfect because it just narrows the focus in my research. As for our sect of Islam, we are Sunni.

In regards to our sect, I think its interesting that there even is a significant "Persian ancestry" because weren't most Persians who came to the region Shiite? Perhaps someone in my family converted to the Hanafi sect or married some one who was Shiite.

Also, since no one in my family tree is of known Persian heritage, I wonder how recent this DNA is?

Sunni Persians, escaping Safawid persecution, kept arriving into the Subcontinent until the early 17th Century as well. Just keep this in mind.

No problem. nMonte can be rough because it’s at the mercy of ancestral components, if there’s some component lacking it could throw everything else off. So it’s not 100% efficient at pinpointing ancestry(formal stats can do that). That’s why it’s good to use a variety of sources.

As the user above said, it could have been that. Or possibly someone who switched sect. Or maybe even a converted parsi ancestor, who knows.

From my maternal side one of my ancestors, Raja Shyam Roy, a Bengali Brahmin Zamindar and a mansabdar in the Mughal army, after war with the Arakanese in 1666 and conquest of the Chittagong region, converted to Islam and married a daughter of Shaista Khan, a Mughal general and then Subahdar of Bengal. Shaista Khan was from a very illustrious family with roots in Tehran. His father was Asaf Khan, the Mughal prime minister, son of Mirza Ghiyas Beg an Iranian noble whose father in turn was a minister in Iran, while his sister, Mumtaz Mahal was married to Shah Jahan, and his aunt, Nurjahan to Jahangir, among other renowned members of the family. Of course this is 18 generations back, but thought I'd share.

Jatt1 and Khana cousin C are close to me.. Closest is Udegram_IA. My thinking is away from the main houses of the Khatris that mixed more for alliances, mine didn't do that.

Can someone list all relevant models for South Asians as a whole and more regional models? I can put them as "custom calculators" so that we can easily run them without having to manually select them from the main runner page. A couple of users have created their own "calculators", but nothing specific to South Asians yet. I might give it a shot this weekend, but want more expert members' input.

I tried POI's custom calculator. Put some South Asian members in it. Had to run individual ones but not a good fit for NW members. randwulf_k15

    Fit 8.32

    Southasian 40
