Interesting, though I honestly think using individual samples creates noisy results, while ancestral proportions are mainly the same. The calculator overcompensates / adjusts to the appropriate proportions if a kit leans towards 8728 or 1459.

I was able to replicate your run using individual 1459,8728. My dad also leans on 1459 like Agent Lime here, while I score more like my mother -

However, when replicating using more ancient pops as you had run for me a while ago, the proportions are more or less the same -

When using the same exact run as above (1459,8728), the Khatri samples vary a bit more, which is as expected due to some individuals being more South or NW shifted. Again, I suspect its just the limitations of the calculator that cause the individuals [who otherwise have the same proportions] to prefer 8728 rather than 1459, or vice versa.

I used a pool of 8728,1459,1456. Though for G25, 8728+1456 is fine too. Utilizing this you get a more uniform profile for what the putative Indo Aryan ancestor would be. Though on the flip side for those AASI shifted outliers, they need some AASI rich population.

You have interesting results, Jatts will usually get higher Steppe. Your HW results do show a more Khatri-like profile, but your G25 shows less BMAC-like ancestry than the majority of Khatris. Here's a standard IA model -

Thank you very much for this! Very interesting stuff.

I wonder if there's a cline within East Punjab of AASI:steppe ratio among Jatts.

We know Haryanvi/UP Jaats tend to score higher steppe than Jatt Sikhs in East Punjab, and Jatt Sikhs more than Jutt Muslims in West Punjab.

According to this (https://miro.medium.com/max/1400/1*d...5q9OyOjAFg.png), Lahnda Jutts have higher S Indian and lower NE Euro than Majha Jutts in West Punjab. So this also follows the pattern of higher steppe and lower AASI as we move East.

Perhaps Majha Jatts in East Punjab are similar to Majha Jutts? And Doaba/Malwa Jatts are more similar to Haryanvi/UP Jaats? Visually there does seem to be a difference too, but I know that can be misleading. I'm guessing Doaba Sikhs are gonna be overrepresented in online databases since they're so overrepresented in the diaspora in general.

Personally I'm from Majha on my mom's side and Doaba on my dad's side. I know that the Jats of my mom's pind used to be Sultanias before converting to Sikhi in the early-mid 1600s. Maybe that is a factor too.

Actually, I don't think Jatts of East Punjab are uniform in how they scored based on region whether it is Majha, Malwa or Doab. I've seen more Steppe shifted and less Steppe shifted Jatt Sikhs from all across East/Indian Punjab. This makes sense imo since most Jatt Sikhs have ancestry or grandparents from all over Punjab (Majha, Doab and Malwa).

However, I do have a theory that perhaps the Jatts of West Punjab (At least north and west of rural Majha) might score a bit different than Jatt Sikhs of East Punjab on average without admixture from other Pak Punjabi biradaris. However, there was a very atypical Jatt Sikh result a few of us came across on reddit where the user in question scored very low NE Euro on Harappa (like 6%) but 14% Caucasian and around 31% SI. Their ancestry was all from the Malwa if I recall correctly, which made their results even more confusing.

Reading through the reddit comments, OP mentioned that their family may not have been endogamous, since they donít have a caste-specific clan name.

Iím not sure if they mentioned their surnameís, but that may suggest that theyíre either a mixed (non-biradri) Punjabi or possibly a non-ethnic Jatt (claiming Jatt membership due to occupation rather than ethnicity; i.e. using Jatt synonymously with Kisān due to the regional affiliation). So they may be an outlier for those reasons, in which case a cline may exist but difficult to discern. If there were additional data categorized by clans, it might become clearer.

Edit: I didnít see the oracleís there, but donít their HW % look more Khatri-like than Jatt?

Can you post her Harappa scores?

According to G25, her 1/4th side seems to be UP Brahmin like.
