True they are quite robust looking, they are also generally tall from my experience and probs the Tallest Tamil community.

I think its incorrect to extrapolate the facial phenotype of mesolithic gangetic plains hunter gatherers who would probably be 'masters' of their area with access to entire flora and fauna, from the tribals/dalits of south india. The subsistence strategies would have been different and there would have been no imposed social hierarchy where they would have remained at the bottom of the social pyramid and thus, less likely to suffer from malnutrition across generations.

I think the reconstruction was from a fossilized skelton so DNA wouldn't even be present as far as I know. This was in response to sequencing the sahar nai individual

I am hoping that is not the case, even for Sarai Nahar Rai!
Hoping to get something because we have so many Ganga mesolitic lake settlements.
    Per Jarridge:
"thousands of ""Mesolithic'' sites have been recorded as well as many ""Neolithic'' settlements close to lakes left by ancient meanders of the Ganges"

There were probably more 'Mesolithic sites' in India than 'Mesolithic folk' in northern Eurasia, and if we can't get the former's DNA, that would be a total disaster.

I remember Niraj Rai saying something about sequencing Neolithic individual from Ganges region in the video I posted earlier, not sure about Mesolithic. If it was a near glacial fossilization then it might be possible to extract DNA. I know there are post/para glacial lake associated Paleolithic sites in Peshawar valley and Potohar, are Ganges lake sites similar?

No doubt the conditions in northen India (Indus-Ganga-Brahmaputr) are terrible for preservation. This zone from the Indus plains to Gaur-Dinajpur-Bangal area should be very similar overall in the Mesolithic. I would bet that ~40-60 of the world's population was there in this zone in the LGM through the Younger Dryas.

The northwest and central Vindhyas are only a little better for preservation. So I hope for some hair samples and also samples from the Himalayan Khas belt (Hindu Kush to Assam) where preservation is better.

As to Rai - frustrating - but claims are often more that the underlying evidence.

Can you expand on these sites near Peshawar, are there any human remains dating to that period or mesolithic period there?
