I looked at both your mom and Khala, they both need a more ANF enriched BMAC source , I had to use Sappali Tepe2 which often works well with Afghan Pashtuns, which infers a bit more Iran Chl ancestry. So there was definitely some further admixture beyond the traditional combinations used for populations here. I have looked at Potohari and Mirpuri results galore thanks to Amber and they are not like your mom's family.

Proximally, that would make more sense , though since they are on the SA cline and they are not super ANF rich that excludes them, that would mean either ANF enriched Yagnobis or some Plateau Iranian but your family is not exactly Steppe rich. Your relative's story actually adds up.

kashmiris in punjab have been notoriously endogamous just like other biradaris only marrying with other ethnic kashmiris like lone mir ,dar,naik,khawaja are the ones i now connected to our family but as far as i know dad is full blooded kashmiri.my paternal grandma was mughal from jammu(might be tarkhan) and maternal grandfather was full blooded pahri (sudhan).so we are not full blooded pahari mix of ethnic kashmiri and pahari kashmiri.hope this answers your question

Actually, Butt is used by the Kashmiri Muslims, whereas the Hindus use Bhat, similar to Dar used by Kashmiri Muslims, while many Kashmiri Pandits use Dhar. This indicates Indian influence. Paharis in the former princely state of J&K did not have Bhat or Butt surnames unless one was a migrant from the valley.
