Sainis use "Saini" as surname, Rajputs can use "Thakur" as surname but all have gotras seperate from the community surname they use.

On a funny note, Tarkhans have surname overlap with Brahmins like Bhardwaj, Devgan and Attri. Some Hindu Tarkhans use Sharma as surname.
I knew you had mentioned something like this before. I don't believe Jatts have this system. They user either their clan ("gotra") name, village name or Singh/Kaur if they gave up their "caste/biradari" name. We have subclans like Brar coming from Sidhu but that is the closest similarity. I know people have brought up potential splits like Sidhu or Sandhu from Sindhu but nothing like the concept of a Grewal, Mann or Bains falling under a larger "group" name or identity that precedes them.

Kamboh user Kamboj/Kamboh. Kumhar use Prajapat, Gujjars use Gurjars, Ror use Ror. I guess the communities with smaller numbers tend to use the community name.

The Rajput profile in West Himalayas/ Pahad (Kangra/Chamba?) region could be similar. It's Steppe/BMAC ratio is closer to 1 + it has lower East Asian.
