Also one of my Palermo sample got over 20% Middle Eastern but some went as low as 13%, Calabria for some reason has very high Near Eastern as much as the Dodecanese but less than Cypriots.

As promised, my set of Palermitans come out as, for the component's main 4 clusters, for 25 people:

    Anatolian: 27.92 (high 30.62, low 24.43)
    Baltic: 14.47 (high 17.71, low 9.21)
    Middle East: 18.02 (high 20.41, low 15.98)
    Mediterranean: 36.60 (high 38.18, low 34.27)

They are fairly in line with Calabria and not "European shifted" compared to them nor Cretans. I mean, well over half of them were scoring Baltic that was 12-13%, with one person below 10%, and Middle Eastern was around 17-19% for the vast majority.

And since you insist Syracusans are similar to Messinese, I ran my 4 Syracusans plus 4 people labeled on GEDmatch as "SE Sicily", one person from Vittoria in Ragusa and one person from Caltagirone/Vizzini in Catania and this is how they came out...

    Anatolian: 26.75 (high 29.32, low 24.32)
    Baltic: 17.96 (high 20.58, low 16.24)
    Middle East: 15.17 (high 17.56, low 12.17)
    Mediterranean: 36.60 (high 38.70, low 35.82)

The half Tuscan, half Lebanese is close to south Italians and Sicilians because Tuscans are close to mainland Greeks only with western, not northeastern, admixture (Sicilians have western admixture but not northeastern) and because of the Levantine. So it is possible to come out close to Sicily or Crete without being significantly Greek admixed.

Interestingly instead of Levantine shift the Ashkenazi gives a Turkish like shift here, because of that small % East Asian, Siberian Ashkenazim often score.

Both Tuscan and Bergamo you posted are HGDP samples. Those HGDP samples don't work very well on some calculators.

In this MDPL 16 modern PCA you can see how non-academic Tuscans and Lombards act in comparison with Tuscan HGDP and Bergamo HGDP academic samples (Lombard HGDP in the PCA).

On Eurogenes, and especially K15, they even get weirder results. Some samples are very Sardinian shifted (in both Bergamo and Tuscan HGDP). And look at how the HGDP sample clusters (blue) are both much larger than those based on non-academic samples (black).

His Palermo results are close to mine only the Baltic is lower and Middle East higher by about 2%. But I did run Syracusans through and they come out 4% more Baltic/less Middle Eastern on average than my Palermitans. Everything else is pretty much the same.

My Calabrian results come out close to Dodecanese, just as his do.

What is interesting, is that this half Ashkenazi, half South Italy basically gets Greek - which shows that this is the dominant component in both populations.

Even on MDLP-22, this is what a 3 populations mix get:

    Code:
    Using 3 populations approximation:
    1 50% Greek_East_derived +25% Greek_East_derived +25% Syrian_derived @ 1.219670
This is what they get on K36 similarity map:

Do you know which region in South Italy?

As expected, all she clusters first with Northern and Central Italians, then with Greek main landers - in sharp contrast to South Italians, Sicilians and Western Jews.

So it is possible to come out close to Sicily or Crete without being significantly Greek admixed.
Tuscans still have some (very low) Greek and Levantine admixture from Northward migrations. Although as opposed to South Italians/Sicilians, this is obviously not the dominant components among them.
However, don't forget that South Italians and Sicilians also have West European admixture they probably share with Tuscans, coming from the pre-Greek population that was never wiped out, just outnumbered by Greek colonizers.

However, South Italians/Sicilians also have additional Levantine admixture which Tuscans have much less of, so 1/2 Tuscan (which has mostly West European admixture, with some minor Greek and Levantine admixtures coming from some South Italians migrating and assimilating in the north over the centuries) + 1/2 Levantine - creates something similar to South Italians.

Btw, her oracles, showing West Sicilian so close, in addition to her k36 similarity map seems to re-enforce the theory that Trapani is indeed an outlier with more North-shifted population with significant Levantine admixture, as opposed to the rest of Sicily which has higher Greek admixture as well as Levantine. This might also reflect the highest levels of I1 that can be found in Trapani.

Not even Central Italy serves as an overlap, since while it does overlap with North Italy, it barely just touches South Italy. This is consistent with what we see on nMonte.
