    In particular, by focusing on the Southern Italian/Balkan genetic framework, the considered level of clustering (K = 14) defines the following groups:

    i) a Southern Balkan cluster (cyan in Fig. 3) encompassing all the samples from Albania (Tosk and Gheg), Kosovo and Northern-Greece, most of individuals from Central-Greece and the Peloponnesus as well as several Albanian-speaking Arbereshe from Calabria (ARB_CAL);

    ii) an Apulia/West Sicily cluster (AW-Sicily, purple in Fig. 3) frequent in the easternmost provinces of Southern Italy (i.e. Basilicata/Apulia, including Greek-speaking groups of Salento, GRI_SAL) and in the western part of Sicily (including Albanian-speaking Arbereshe from Sicily, ARB_SIC), and including also individuals from both continental and insular Greece;

    iii) a Calabria/Central-East Sicily cluster (CE-Sicily, limegreen in Fig. 3) comprehensive of most of Central-Eastern Sicilian and Calabrian individuals, as well as of many Cretan and Anatolian/ Dodecanese Greeks;

    iv) private Calabrian Greek (white in Fig. 3) and Cypriot (aquamarine in Fig. 3) clusters.

    While Calabrian Greek and Cypriot clusters are highly specific of their corresponding populations, on the other hand the two SSI-clusters (AW-Sicily and CE-Sicily) appear tightly interrelated with each other (Supplementary Fig. S5), showing some degree of admixture within a genetically contiguous area that, additionally to Southern Italy, encompasses also Crete and the Aegean/Dodecanese islands (i.e. what we called the “Mediterranean genetic continuum”). Although not too much emphasis should be therefore given to the “divisive” aspect of these two clusters, some differentiation emerges in the relative proportion to which each cluster is present in West Sicily (and Apulia) or East Sicily (and Calabria) respectively. In addition, one of the two clusters (the AW-Sicily purple one) appears more properly related not only to Crete and the Aegean/Dodecanese Greek islands, but also to Continental Greece, thus providing the framework for a finer exploration of subtle differentiation patterns.

    It nowhere says that half of Greek islanders plot with Trapani and Apulia, it just says that the latter are closer to continental Greeks.

    It states Greek islanders fall into two clusters: Trapani/Apulia, and E-C Sicily, but that the Trapani/Apulia cluster is "more properly related to" both island and mainland Greeks, but does not say which islanders fall into that cluster. My belief is most likely NOT most Dodecanese but I am just quoting the study.

    Of course, because Trapani and Apulia should be slightly more northern, for this reason it's more related (to islands) but also to mainland Greeks.

    Correct. The implication then being that the Aegean islanders with more mainland shift will end up in that cluster, those with less will be in the Calabria/E-C Sicily cluster.

    East Sicilians are a slightly diluted version of Calabrese really. Sephardim, too, do not have much northern admixture to pull them away and if we are to believe both groups are fairly equally ancient Aegean it wold make sense they plot together.
    The differences here are very exaggerated. I've seen over 20 results from Calabria and at least 50+ from Sicily, but I couldn't tell them apart based on autosomal outcome. On the other hand I can usually easily tell apart an Ashkenazi or Sephardi result from a South Italian without even looking their pedigree chart based on the ratio of components. What I noticed that when it comes to Jewish population their Near Eastern component derives from a Southern Levant based source while Italians almost always get Assyrian or Cypriot or Armenian as secondary population in 2 way breakdown, and this has to do with the Bronze age migrations from Armenia EBA and Anatolia Chalcolithic like populations who once colonized South-East Europe, Aegean and the Northern Middle east in circa the same time. I won't spam 20+ results but I have relatively "average" samples from different corners of Sicily, South Italy and Greece (both Mainland, Islands and Pontus regions/Asia minor which was once ex Hellenic territories in the past)

    For example this is what some from Trapani gets in Eurogenes K15

    Here comes the Calabrese, I don't see they shift differently than East Sicilians, maybe slight increase in East Med and the decrease of North African shift which is common for Sicily, altough there are exceptional cases when a Calabrese have North African shift and a Sicilian KIT looks like a regular continental Italian, like in some aforementioned cases, but in reality I think the smaller towns have more unique results because larger cities received migrations from all over South Italy within the last 200 years which screws the results and give a more heterogeneous genetic profile of a certain region, where as in Isolated towns it's common that people virtually score the same results.

    Agreed, this is also something I've told Sikeliot. If Greek and Turkish Cypriots are basically the same, then of course two island populations (E. Sicilians and W. Sicilians) with the same language and religion will be the same. What is being discussed here are very slight trends.

    On the other hand I can usually easily tell apart an Ashkenazi or Sephardi result from a South Italian without even looking their pedigree chart based on the ratio of components.
    I don't know how you can claim this, when some of the oracles you put down below get less than 1 genetic distance difference between Sicilians and Jews:

    1 South_Italian 4.28
    2 Italian_Jewish 4.83
    3 East_Sicilian 5.48

    What I noticed that when it comes to Jewish population their Near Eastern component derives from a Southern Levant
    Wrong, Western Jews do not cluster with South Levantines, but with Northern Levantines (Druze, Christian Lebanese, Armenians).

    I've already linked to a study which confirms this. Also, in all their oracles, they get N. Levantines in their 2 way breakdown before any S. Levantine show up.

    based source while Italians almost always get Assyrian or Cypriot or Armenian as secondary population in 2 way breakdown, and this has to do with the Bronze age migrations from Armenia EBA and Anatolia Chalcolithic like populations who once colonized South-East Europe, Aegean and the Northern Middle east in circa the same time. I won't spam 20+ results but I have relatively "average" samples from different corners of Sicily, South Italy and Greece (both Mainland, Islands and Pontus regions/Asia minor which was once ex Hellenic territories in the past)
    So many wrong statements in one paragraph...

    First, in your own samples, there are no Assyrians before Levantines in all samples but Palermo3.

    Second, all current studies show Cypriots are close to Lebanese, not Assyrians. So your attempt to put them together with Assyrians is simply bad science. Basically, Cypriots are Greeks admixed with Lebanese-like Levantines:
    http://journals.plos.org/plosone/art...l.pone.0179474

    Which states:

    Lebanese patrilinages also appear very close to Cypriot (both GCy and TCy).patrilinages in terms of paternal ancestry. The high genetic affinity between Cypriots and Lebanese can be explained through several migrations that took place from coastal Levant to Cyprus from the Neolithic (early farmers)[1] to the Iron Age (Phoenicians)[3] and up to the Middle Ages (Maronites and other Levantine settlers during the Frankish era)[4]. A previous study analyzing detailed SNP data for determining ancient ancestry among Cypriots, revealed that around 24% of Cypriot patrilinages are descendent from the Levant, derived from migrations occurring from the Neolithic and throughout the Bronze and Iron Ages
    Also, you last sentence which says:
    Armenia EBA and Anatolia Chalcolithic like populations who once colonized South-East Europe, Aegean and the Northern Middle east in circa the same time.
    Modern Assyrians or Levantines (or even modern day Armenians) do not cluster with EBA Armenians or Chalcolithic Anatolians. Mycenaeans, the so-called Anatolian population that colonized Greece in the Bronze Age, resemble BA Anatolians.

    I think you have an agenda to somehow portray Jews as Arab-like (which they are not), and negate any Levantine admixture among Italians and Greeks.

    Nobody said Western Jews cluster with Southern Levantines, but the main Levantine source in Jews derives from a Soutern Levantine like (Samaritan, Palestin Christian, Jordanian) like source different than what you have in South Italians and Greek Islanders, if you carefully see the oracles then you see that most of the Sicilians especially the ones from Messina gets something like 70% Cypriot + 30% Iberian as a breakdown, where as in Ashkenazi Jews it's usually a Southern Levantine population (Samaritan, Leb Christian, Palestin Chris, Syrian, Jordanian etc.) Sicilians and Greek Islanders sometimes get Assyrians as secondary or third source as the most accurate breakdown of their ancestry. Northern Levantines and Anatolians have higher Anatolia BA, Iran CHL and Anatolia CHL derived ancestry which is also dominant/high in some Greek Islander and South Italian samples.

    Yes, but their distance is far, not a single South Italian I've seen gets any Levantine below 10 and some gets Turkish higher than Levantines, while Cypriots are far closer than any Levant population as excepted, also notice that how Northern Africans plot further away despite the geographical distance between Sicily and Tunisia is just a few hundred miles.

    I'm not sure what excatly Arab like means but if you refer to Palestinians, Jordanians, Samaritans then they have the strongest links to Western Jews, given the Near Eastern derived ancestry primary comes from Southern Levantine populations, and not from Assyrians, Cypriots and Anatolians in the case of Ashkenazi and Western Sephardic Jews. I think Mizrachi Jews have stronger links to Assyrians and the Northern Levant.

    You are mixing populations here.

    First, Cypriots are not Levantines. The reason why many Sicilians and S. Italians get Cypriots, is not because they cluster with a Northern Levantine Cypriot, it's because Cypriots are Greeks mixed with Levantines - it's the Greek part that make them cluster with S. Italians and Sicilians.

    Also, Cypriots themselves, in terms of closest Levantine population, cluster with Lebanese and Samaritans and Druze, which you seem to define as a South Levantine populations ("Southern Levantine population (Samaritan, Leb Christian, Palestin Chris, Syrian, Jordanian etc.)").

    Assyrians aren't Levantines - they are Mesopotamian, and they cluster closer to Anatolians and Armenians than to Levantines.

    Also, I've seen many Ashkenazi Jews and Sephardic Jews also get Kurdish Jews, Assyrians etc. in their oracles.
