That study is old (2014) by our standards, and tested only modern DNA, not aDNA. Its specific conclusion only concerned the R1a-M420 level, which split into the rare and mysterious R-YP4141 and the ubiquitous R-M459. But this bifurcation occurred over 18,000 years ago, so no one can say where it happened from modern DNA alone.

You do not have enough people from Iran even testing to arrive at these conclusions, imo.

What the actual kek is this? I can definitely see that this was written before the discovery of the Ukraine_Eneolithic sample, that's for sure...

It's a scandal but no Y-DNA NGS serious or comprehensive study or article has been made in Iran after 5 years of the development of that new technology. I have seen articles about NW Amazon, SW Angola and they are very interesting but nobody investigated the Iranian central hub and we only can have some minor Iranian expatriated results to guess something about the Iranian basal lines in several major Eurasian haplogroups.

You are right. Discussing haplogroup origins by referencing studies that were published before ancient DNA is like talking about unicorns, fairies and dragons.

Y chromosomes of newcomers migrating, invading or conquering new regions form a predominant and phylogenetically coherent starlike cluster that is consistent with origins dated from those events. Iranian Y-DNA basal lines, distributions, proportions and diversity are completely different from the Central Asian, Subcontinental Indian or European Y-DNA structures. Source area and not sink area.
