    E-M5021 SNP Help

    Hello everyone,

I recently had a relative test on 23andme giving me the haplogroup of one of my great-grandfathers which was E-M5021 (E-M35). This however, is an unrefined result and I know that 23andme does test for downstream SNPs but does not report them. I was wondering if anyone familiar knew where I can check in the raw data to see if he is positive for any of the downstream subclades. I would really appreciate any help! Thank you in advance.

Update: I've uploaded the data into MorelyDNA, using the ISOGG tree, it predicts the haplogroup as E-M215. Using the experimental tree, it is E-V168 (E1b1b1b1a2~2). However, I'm confused with this assignment because it shows negative SNPs at the upstream sites, including E1b1b1b/Z827-). Should I disregard this assignment?

Once you have downloaded your genome raw data from 23andme you should be able to open it in a text editor like notepad and determine in the first few lines what version of the test you have. You may download the SNP locations for the Y Chromosome provided by Tim Janzen from the site isogg.org wiki on 23andMe.

You will most likely not recognize the names in Tim's spreadsheet but can likely find them elsewhere on the internet. For example the B37 location for M78 is 21893303 which you will see has the name i3000085.
    M35 is location 21741703 or i3000063. etc.

Use the Find function of the text editor to search your raw data for 21893303. If your test result is T then you are positive for M78 ... if C then you are negative. Similarly for M35 search for 21741703 ... C is positive and G is negative.

If you cannot find the important SNP definitions for M35 online send me an email and I will add those to Tim's spreadsheet.

Thank you for your reply to my post. I am having difficulty finding the page that contains Tim Jansen's spreadsheet on isogg.org wiki, would you mind directing me further or sending the link? The version that the results are displayed in is B37. It is positive for M35 and no call for M78, but I'm hoping there are some downstream SNPs for V12, V13, V22 or V65 that I can look for.

Unfortunately, the site won't allow me to PM or email you until I have more posts.

Thank you again for taking the time to assist me, it is much appreciated!
