    Some Haplogroups updated (August 2018)

    I noticed that some paternal haplogroups have been refined by 23andMe. Here are 3 examples of haplogroups I noticed changed:

    E-M5021 --> E-M123
    G-L30 --> G-M406
    R-M417 --> R-Z92

    Even though these still date to pre-historic times, sometimes all you need is a few more downstream clades for it to be informative, so I welcome the update!

    Edit: Per the company:
    On July 30th, we updated the paternal haplogroup algorithm to consider an expanded set of variants on the Y chromosome. As a result, certain customers on version 5 of the genotyping chip will observe updated assignments — most often more precise ones.

    I noticed this when I logged into 23andme today and I noticed I was assigned paternal haplogroup R-L266 when I was previously assigned R-M207 before this update. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a change to their paternal haplogroup assignment on 23andme as well?

    I compared two copies of the relative results file that I have downloaded, one from before the update and one from after the update. I noted the following changes:

    Was your test genotyped on the V5 chip or older versions?

    My results were with the v5 chip.

    Considering that 23andme's blog post states that all revised results were also sampled with the v5 chip, I'm intrigued that some people who were previously assigned R-M207 were reassigned R-L295 which is downstream from R-L266 according to 23andme's tree however when I plugged my DNA download into MorleyDNA's haplogroup predictor I wasn't tested for L295 even though relatives who were tested on the same chip were. Am I missing something here?

    My haplogroup updated quite a bit, nearly six spots further down the line, I-M223 to I-BY526. I was happy with the results.

    Wow, that is indeed very specific! Yours also tested on V5? Mind posting a screenshot of your paternal haplogroup page?
