Greater Diversity in S27900 and ZZ37

I wanted to post regarding new information which as been learned about the ZZ37 SNP and its subgroups just in the past 12 months which renders a lot of what people may have heard about it even last year dated or inaccurate.

Starting with the S27900 SNP, in just the past 12 months, the number of S27900 men who have taken Big Y tests has more than doubled. Numerous lines have taken confirming S27900 SNP tests. I have heard a lot of people say things like "I heard in 2016 that all S27900 men are Welsh." There is a high concentration of S27900 men of Welsh paternal ancestry, but testing done just in the past year has proven that the S27900 branch has at least one Irish branch, English branches, and possibly a Scottish branch. The most numerous subgroup of S27900, called FGC39549 or A5305, is almost entirely Welsh. But the FGC39549 branch is only one of three now known direct branches of S27900, two of which were discovered in the past 12 months.

The same thing appears to be playing out as more is learned about the other branches of ZZ37. Each branch is still focused around a particular area. But the blanket statement that "S27900 is Welsh" or "Z30600 is Scottish" is no longer supportable by the most current information that indicates that ZZ37 and its branches are more numerous and geographically diverse than one might reasonably have assumed even as recently as this time last year.
