    Haplogroup G project

    The haplogroup G project is run by Ray B with co-administrators, with many thousands of samples(to date) from FTDNA.

    I took all STR111 individuals from this and all other projects to create a tree of haplogroup G (N=139).

    That's interesting. The one bright yellow G2a2 sample is colonial American, most likely originating in England. The G2a4 sample there next to it looks the same. They are both L223+ with duplicated DYS19 mutation.

    Obviously the L223 and duplicated DYS19 mutation originated and split somewhere else, since one is M286+ and the other is L91+ (like Otzi). The L223 / duplicated DYS19 is at least as far east as Iran, and as far south as Morocco. With so few 111-marker samples out there, these two just happened to be English due to sampling bias.

    A friend of mine who is English has just received their paternal Haplogroup as G-M286 I hear it’s rare in Britain?
