Sicilian grandfather yet I score 42% north italy

I am questioning my Italian results. My grandfather is Sicilian. His parents his brothers and sisters all from sicily. Yet, DNA Land and Gedmatch show most of my Italian as northern and central. Why is that?

    DNA land

    42% South Central euro
Includes Italian Bergamo, Tuscan and Toscani and 1 other site. Does not include Albanian, basque French Sicilian.

1.2% mediterranean islander includes sicily, malta, Cypriot ?

Ancestry has 36% South euro sicily
23 and me say 20% italian and 13.1% Broadly Southern euro

And other tests that show similar

It is because you are a mix so on Gedmatch it would plot you in between your South Italian and your more Northern ancestry. If you were plotted in a genetic map you would be in between these populations so you likely come out as Northern Italian because of this.

Hi! I think it's your Northern European origins that have moved the Sicilian part more to the north, and therefore it has become northern Italian.

I know, I have a Sicilian great-grandfather and until the update for 23andMe I had 0% Italian! Now I have 2%. The original had his DNA contribution as Balkan and Broadly Southern European. Sicily appears to be unique genetically from peninsular Italy, more Greek and Near Eastern.

do you only have one sicilian grandparent or two? Because 36% (Ancestry) seems a bit high for having a single full blooded GP.

One and yes 36 % ancestry, 42% dna land, 23 and me 20% and 13% Broadly souther, my heritage 31% gencove 30%. All seem high. What's your theory? I suspect some northern Italian from dad. He is 25% southern euro. 70% east euro. North Italian shows up on gedmatch for him too.

Honestly Im not sure. I think we spoke on this before but arent you Croatian as well? Maybe that is confusing things also??

I am also 25% Italian on paper, yet both 23 and Me and Ancestry only have me at 13% Italian with other components like west asian/Caucasus making up the rest to 25%. Im just curious as to why the difference. My Aunt, who is on paper half Italian is only 33% at Ancestry but 14% Caucasus, etc... I suspect we might just be less Italic and more "other"

My mom's ancestry kit in progress. My ancestry kit also shows 4% caucasus, 2% middle east. I did phase my father's kit with mine on gedmatch, so I have phased kit for mom.

Yes croatian too and northwest euro
