What contributes to differences in skin colour within Natives across the British Isle

My skin is pale white and doesn’t tan or burn. I have a sister who burns beetroot red and a sister who tans extensively within a few hours.

What contributes to this vast variation in skin pigments given a lack of variation in ones ancestry?

My ancestry results (95% Ireland and Scotland, 5% England and Wales are not from Mediterranean regions or regions that would contribute a majority of tan individuals)..

So where would this tanned skin originate?

Here's an article on a study that examined genes for tanning vs. burning (and how it relates to skin cancer): https://www.businessinsider.com/why-do-i-burn-2018-5 and the study: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-018-04086-y

Apparently there's more to it than the genes that control skin tone.

Anecdotally, my dad has dark hair (light blue eyes, ruddy skin), but can't tan at all. I have light brown hair, green eyes, pale skin, can't tan. My sister has blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin, but tans okay, and my mom had brown hair, green eyes, and tanned pretty well. My dad is pretty much English/Welsh, my mom is a combination of British Isles, German, and Scandinavian.
