Zaveri is used in Gujarat by anyone who deals in or works with Gold/Jewelry. These are castes like Lohana, Banias, Memons and Khojas.
“Some of you say, “Joy is greater than sorrow,” and others say, “Nay, sorrow is the greater.”
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.”

Are Zuberi / Zaveri in Gujarat more related to Lohana, Memons and Khoja, or to Banias?

I have seen the surname among both groups, so hard to quantify it. The Banias are more likely to write it as Jhaveri though, I would say.

From what I have gathered Zuberi derive their name from a historic personality Zubair bin Al-Awam, from tribe of the Prophet of Islam himself. Zaveri though sounds similar has a different root.

Thats what I thought. But their genetic profiles seem heterogenous, Uttar-Pardesi-like, Punjabi-like and even Kashmiri-like.

    Check this out: https://newpakhistorian.wordpress.co...ubairi-family/

According to one of these theories, they are Muslim Kambohs who have a tradition of migrating from what is now Punjab/Afghanistan. The genetics at least partly supports that origin if these results are indeed of the same community referred to in the link above.

He is my cousin one generation removed, belonging to the same subsect of Audichya Brahmins as me and also from Bhavnagar.
But he is scoring quite differently than me... I wonder why.
