Some of the well known sub castes of Reddys are Ayodhi Reddys (in Tamil Nadu), Motati Reddys, Neravati reddy, Pedakanti Reddy, Chowdary Reddy(saudary Reddy), Gudati Reddy, Reddy Gandla, Pakanati Reddys, Velanati Reddys, Namadarlu, Vadde Reddys, Panta Reddys,Gandla reddy, Ganjam Reddy (in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Orissa), Pokanati Reddys, Nanugonda Reddys, Gone Kapu, Palle Reddy and Konda Reddy. Hyderabad and Rangareddy are dominated by Gudati, Gone Kapu and Reddy kapu sub castes. Adilabad and Karimnagar have Reddy Gandla, gudati and Motati in majority.
In Karanataka, Shepherd ( Kuruba) are numerically large and dominant, second largest after vokkaligas in the Deccan part of Karnataka, and in 4 districts bordering Telangana ( Bidar to Bellary) there is a significant presence and also have gowda title, like vokkaligas probably due as they are/were the majority in those villages, I believe that is not the case in Telangana and AP, do you know why is that? or is it so?

Kuruma people exists in Telangana http://kurumashistory.blogspot.com/2...a-history.html. They might be from Megalithic age of Western/Central India mixed with local unknown groups during ancient times. But their numbers are not big like in Karnataka or up north. There is this theory of some Gangetic Kurma vamsi people probably formed one of the earliest migration down south might have mixed with ancient castes like Kapu, Kamma and Vokkaliga during times when Magadh soldiers moving south. This trend was high during Jain and Buddist period 4the CEN BC to 11th CEN CE. given big number of newly formed Gangetic names of gotra among Kapu and Kamma like Janakanulla, Ayodhya, Ramkula, Srikula etc.. there was probably big migration during IA Magadh of these people with different gotra system than Vedic system indicating Jain or Buddhist influences.

When components are scored in low amounts, they can be outliers.

There are many pockets of this ancient Magadh migration showing up as Dusadh or Koeiri. Then the later mix of little bit Kamboh shows up as Dharkar. If there is no additional Jat like or Hun admix then this is what shows up. Kammas as 25% L1 including L-M357, some Q and G and due to high recent endogamy this kind of samples are lost. Some of the smaller pockets probably still exist with older mix like this.

Menon or Menavan is a title given to Nair families in Valluvanad and Ernad. Title was supposed to denote the leader of a group of Nair soldiers.
But in Cochin the same title was given to Nair who took care royal or temple properties. The word is said to be a variant of Melal/Melavan which just means a leader of a group.

When the British colonized India, many Menons were put in charge of maintaining the accounts of a certain expanse of land, typically a village or an amsam. This is because they were mostly educated. This system was popular mainly in the Malabar regions. So every village in that region had a Menon as its chief accountant. He would report directly to the British governing officer about the revenue generated from the village assigned to him.

So, during the British, they became scribes and accountants?

A new Nepali caste is added here. The first and the only Thakuri kit so far. Looks more East Asian shifted than Chhetris. However, the "S-Indian" seems pretty consistent with Chhetris while the "Baloch" component is mostly traded off with "NE-Asian" in comparison. It would be interesting to know the background of the person since Thakuris are not homogeneous.
