I am wondering about the story and connection there.
Well, the Reich/Narasimhan paper from 2018 commented on this old observation from GEDMatch admixture calcs. The priestly class or Brahmins being the most Steppe shifted. However, the Pathak paper from 2018 further elaborated on this notion and found there were a few populations (from Northern South Asia) outside the traditional caste system who were even more Steppe shifted than Brahmins.

You're entitled to your phenotype observations but again, phenotype discussion is not allowed on this forum. The focus should be on genetics.

With regards to what is interesting, it doesn’t necessarily have to be “foreign” ancestry to be interesting. The story would be interesting too, if I could observe my ancestry was more similar to so-called low caste/Dalit groups rather than Jatts/Rajputs of the region. I’ve always found it off that my clan takes enormous pride in being “Langrial Rajput” but the tribe’s history is cloudy and is not particularly well known. I just never understood it and thought possibly understanding of genetics could help in answering questions like this and others.
If you are that curious about the potential of your autosomal DNA being similar to dalit/chura groups of Punjab, there are a plethora of PJL (Punjabi Lahore samples) to compare yourself to once you get yourself tested. However, if you are at all similar to other Rajputs/Jatts of Northern Punjab/Potohar/AJK I've come across, you won't be particularly close to the Lahori samples. Most of the anthrogenica members from Punjab are genetically very distant (in the context of South/Central Asia) to the set of 8 Lahori samples available publically on G25. These Lahoris tend to cluster with dalit populations of Uttar Pradesh or with certain South Indian groups.

It doesn’t cause genetic defects, as far as I know. It increases the likelihood of autosomal recessive genetic disorders to be passed down from one generation to the next.

Genetic defects themselves are caused by a mutation in a single gene, or multiple genes, or by a chromosomal abnormality.

The above said, I am not a proponent of cousin marriage because of the increased risk associated with it AND moreover the sociological problems it can contribute to (e.g. community is closed off, insular). I married outside of my ethnicity.
sorry wanted to reply to user (Pakistani) the reason he is seeing albino in his family is because of cousin marriages

Phenotype is determined mainly by genotype, and I wasn't starting a discussion on phenotype. I was explaining why I had an interest in understanding the underlying genetic relationship between my so-called Rajput clan and with whom I regard as the more indigenous populations of South Asia. Phenotype provides hints to possible links. That said, I am not interested in any connections to the west or the north, nor am I interested in why we look the way we do. At the core, is an interest in understanding how South Asia was populated and how that culminated in extremely endogamous communities with a hierarchal social structure. It seems like a DNA test could help explore such questions, but is it worth comprising my personal DNA for it? That's a question for me to answer, and I appreciate your responses in providing some valuable insight into why it could be.

    Thanks,

I don't necessarily recommend going to Razib's blog to get an idea about genetics (a lot of what he discusses is pseudoscience) but apparently the Sintashta were mostly a dark haired and dark eyed group. It's also likely the case that migrating Indo-Aryans mixed with BMAC related populations somewhere in South Central Asia as well so some lighter traits may have come via them as well.

Anyways, if this is the case, it's not surprising the most Steppe shifted South Asians aren't particularly light haired or eyed groups.
Fatyanovo would be better to look at than Sintashta and your right unlike Modern Eastern Europeans they were not fixed for certain traits. Approx 60% of Fatyanovo had black hair, 75% had brown eyes. Skin tone is more complex and unpredictable but it would be in the same realm as darker Ukrainians/Moldovans of today I would imagine?

are the tyagi's results more typical for western UP brahmins? or is it hard to pinpoint the exact area in up?

The NEEuro-to-Caucasian and SIndian-to-Baloch proportions look very similar between these samples. Do you have more Tyagi samples? What is interesting is that the "Mediterranean" is missing in the WestUP Tyagi, but is over 3.5% in EastUP.

this is the only one i could find. Its an altered spelling "tiagi", but must be a regional thing. has less euro than the other sample with slightly higher S.Indian, baloch, and caucasian. yeah i was surprised by the high med in that eastern up brahmin. I think gangetic plain brahmins get around 2%, but 3-4% is more rare.
