No, surnames are fine. Just not the full names or the Kit IDs. If the post does not contain those, feel free to ignore my post. Thanks.

It probably has to do with the (South Asian) ancestors of Newars being a diverse set of people from North India, with varying levels of AASI, rather than a direct source from further South. "Newa" is a TibetoBurman term as well.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newar_people

As far as genetics, modeling Newars as just 2-way mix between Nairs and Tibetans, the overall fits aren't bad at all, but you can see some (like Ne35) have bad fits.

Sample Fit Tibetan Lhasa Kerala Nair
    Newar ► Ne08 1.96 54.5 45.5
    Newar ► Ne66 2.14 54 46
    Newar ► Ne41 1.97 52.5 47.5
    Newar ► Ne61 2.14 51 49
    Newar ► Ne30 2.82 51 49
    Newar ► Average 1.61 51 49
    Newar ► Ne35 3.51 46.5 53.5
    Newar ► Ne72 2.84 45.5 54.5

But using more proximal "Uttar Pradesh", the fits seem better across the board.

Sample Fit Uttar Pradesh Tibetan Lhasa
    Newar ► Ne72 2.72 56 44
    Newar ► Ne35 1.95 55.5 44.5
    Newar ► Ne30 2.15 50.5 49.5
    Newar ► Average 1.03 50.5 49.5
    Newar ► Ne61 1.83 50 50
    Newar ► Ne41 2.52 48 52
    Newar ► Ne66 2.31 47 53
    Newar ► Ne08 1.92 46.5 53.5

    https://genoplot.com/shared/g25/#poi/1745a4b24411

This makes sense because Newars have their South Asian source from the Gangetic plains (Licchhavis). That alone seems enough. We can further tighten the fit by adding someone like Parasar for the Steppe boost and the fits look amazing.

Sample Fit Uttar Pradesh Tibetan Lhasa Bihar Brahmin Bhumihar
    Newar ► Ne35 1.95 55.5 44.5 0
    Newar ► Ne61 1.81 45.5 50 4.5
    Newar ► Ne08 1.89 38.5 53.5 8
    Newar ► Ne72 2.43 37.5 43.5 19
    Newar ► Average 0.89 37.5 49.5 13
    Newar ► Ne30 2.06 37 49.5 13.5
    Newar ► Ne66 2.12 33.5 53 13.5
    Newar ► Ne41 2.14 25.5 52 22.5

Re: "There are also several websites that claim that the Nairs of Kerala are the descendants of Newaris"

The town Purnia is Bihar is thought to have been Pur-Nayar, settled by Nayars during Nanyup's rule.

    See also:
"Nanyadeva, who came to besiege their dominion from Carnatic with a
numerous host of all castes and descriptions among which was a caste called Dwingju
Newars who had kuldevatas or family gods called Dwinaju with them. By the aid of these
deities Nanyadeva conquered the country and took possession of Bhatgaon and settled
there, when the Malla Rajahs having left the country went to settle in Tirhut."

"This King introduced the Shaka era. he had come to Nepal along with the idols of
Nimaju and other gods, and retinue consisting of scores of castes including Newars who
lived in the Nair region, also called Nayar, sons of Brahmans, and Acharyas born in the
    Kshatriya caste
    ."

"the Danuwar Rajputs living in Saptari say that their original home
    is Karnataka."

This is supposed to be our community of old. The Baji/Licchavi/Jnatri.
"The Nithar Baji community, which belonged to the ancient tribe known as Vriji or
Vajji, lives in the Tarai region of Nepal (also in the adjoining Madhesh). Though the
Tharus of the region call Brahmans and Kshatriyas as Baji, yet the latter do not seem to
have any connection with the old Vriji tribe. Among the Bajis, Kurmi is the main
community. The claim themselves to be descendants of the old Kshatriyas."

The Newari term for the (Newari) Brahmins is "Bajje", so is that related? .

    No doubt.
I believe it meant pastoralist at one time - Vajji/Bajji and Sanskrit Vriji.

great job!....it is postulated that nanyadeva had in his legion nairs who fought for him and settled in nepal!..of course there are many versions!....architecture, matriliny seem to support this connection...of course if nairs and newars were originally a similar population, it is no longer the case now, nairs having imbibed more of AASI and also steppe ( through nambudiris), not to speak of other mini migrations to kerala over centuries, people who now identify themselves as Nairs.
