ah, I forgot about 23 and Me accepting ancestry dna uploads. When I go to that report I get

    UK-likely
    Italy -Highly likely
    Netherlands-Likely
    Switzerland-Possible match.

Netherlands makes sense, but Switzerland? No. I dont have a Swiss ancestor since the 1700's...Might be the French? Northern Italian confusing things?

One of the big surprises on mine and my sister's 23andMe ancestry results was the amount of Eastern European ancestry we share. As our easternmost known ancestors came from a small German village a few miles north of Dresden in Saxony, this was a bit unexpected. For several years, I had assumed this was ancient Sorbian ancestry. I am 7.7% and she is 7.4%.

Then I was shocked when my sister's results were tweaked and this Eastern European was narrowed down further and assigned as Russian. That led me to speculate how historically we got that much Eastern European DNA from a Russian. Did one of our ancestors get raped by a Russian soldier during the Napoleonic Wars? Instead, could they have been refugees of some sort? Do we descend from a German who moved to Russia under Catherine the Great who married a local Russian girl along the Volga but missed his mama and moved back to Germany with his children? So many questions. Remember, there is absolutely no paper trail genealogy to any Russians.

Now I check my sister's results again, and the Russian is gone with no designation except the generic Eastern European. Are we back to being Sorbs again?

I don't know what to make of all this.

Fun to compare my V3 chip vs my AncestryDNA transfer.
I thought it was strange that my AncestryDNA transfer seemed more insightful than my actual 23andMe test.

    23andMe (Me)
    5 dot Irish now "Likely"
5 dot United Kingdom now "Very Likely"
1 dot Netherlands now not detected
(both parents are 9 generations removed from most recent dutch ancestor).

    AncestryDNA transfer (Me)
    5 dot Irish now "Likely"
4 dot United Kingdom now "Highly Likely"
1 dot Netherland now not detected
1 dot Poland now not detected
    formerly no French now "Likely"
    formerly no German now "Likely"

My mother who is 50% Bavarian/Alsace-Lorraine still only gets Irish and UK.
My father, who is predominately Cornish/Saxon/Pomeranian still gets Irish, UK, Germany and Netherlands (Possible).
Predominately English, Irish & German with Dutch, Swiss, French & Polish

Well, my 100% French father finally gets French as a match now, either highly or very likely, I forget which (before - 0 dots anywhere). No spurious matches either.

Im surprised they couldnt get anything out of the 18.5% French/German they pegged me at. Its not very complicated, mostly likely 12.5% Netherlands and 6% French.

This is a nice feature but needs work. My mom is 32% Swedish but they cannot find a connection? Really?
I'm also kind of baffled by the inability to predict French/German. I'm 14.7% and, if paper trails are correct, it should all be German, but get no connection.

They pegged me as 30.5% French & German which at least some of that is from a Dutch 2x great grandfather on my father's side but no recent ancestor locations for that category. Same with dad except he is 1 generation closer.
