    Ethnogene results

    Hi there!

Has anyone else tried the Ethnogene analysis? They claim to find more specific aspects of ancestry, as they have 200+ reference populations. As in any other test, some people liked the results, others didn't. I ordered it for my maternal uncle's kit and here are the results I got:

    ethnogenes2.JPG

I found it really interesting, got the Northern Italian, Portuguese, Spain (Galicia), Amerindian right. Some of the others (especially the English) are curious, but I still have a lot to discover about my family history. All I know is that my uncle does have a lot of English/British matches, so it made me want to dig deeper.

I advise to look at Ares comments on 23&Me forum https://www.23andmeforums.com/discus...Comment_312016

    1. There is no physical address located on their website for this "company." [EDIT: after few weeks there is some address lol added]

    2. This website did not exist online before October 6, 2018 and the person who registered the domain is hidden behind a proxy.

    3. They set up another site that was taken down a month ago that included the exact same verbiage: https://www.genudna.com/

    4. It is an amateur website thrown together with the Wix.com Website Builder:

    5. They ripped graphics from Teloyears.

What the hell does their site have to do with vitamins and supplements?

BTW they have another clone https://genebryte.com/ with the same content but different title LOL. Probably plan B when Ethnogene will be closed...

Thanks for the information. I just found it a little weird that they don't have a platform (results are sent by email), but the results themselves (whatever calculator they are using) made sense and were very specific in terms of "precisely" determining regions (like I told in the first post). When ordering the analysis there is a place for you to give information about your ancestry in the forms, but I didn't fill it in, so (let's say) in this case they couldn't have taken it from there. But, yes, take things illegally from other websites is definitely suspicious and not right.

I took this test, and I did not give ancestry, and it is the most accurate test to date based on my family tree. I was impressed, I would believe it is similar to britiansdna

After doing some digging it seems that most the images referenced in that comment are actually publicly available as vector art which can be purchased and not actually copyrighted images. Websites frequently purchase vector art for their own usage. This is pretty major given that the comment above is slandering the site without taking this information into account.

    Some thoughts on Ethnogene:
    1. the results are legitimate- people have paid for results, received them, and based on reviews it looks like many found them to be accurate and on par with other DNA sites.
    2. Given the fact that Ethnogene conducts business via PayPal, its actually completely safe since you could theoretically request a full refund from Paypal or your credit card company at any point if needed. Since Paypal is handling the actual transaction, none of your information is going to Ethnogene. The same cannot be said for even AncestryDNA or 23andMe which may not even give you a refund if you wanted.

    3. All the paranoia surrounding DNA is unwarranted given that 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA all sell your data to third party companies. I'm old enough to remember a time when people would've balked at the suggestion of sending AncestryDNA your saliva, now thats the new 'in thing' meanwhile AncestryDNA generates a profit from this.

    4. That other site genebryte looks like a website trawler copied the site and doesnt even look affiliated with the actual one if you examine it
