Kasaragod. Some comments say it has a lot of Tulu influence.

99.9% of Kerala Pillais are Nair.. a small percentage are Syrian Christian. I'm bad at explaining stuff, so I'll copy from Wikipedia:

"From the early modern period, the title also came to be bestowed on Savarna subjects by the ruling families of Kerala for services military or political, most of whom were of Nair origin."

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillai_(Kerala_title)

I'm not a member of the royal family..so my family got it as a title I'm assuming. This last name is also found in TN.. I don't know what caste they are from.

yeah, hindus here are few and scattered, or at least not as "clique" as the christian church communities are. I always wondered if that made people like Kart feel more distant lol

I think its more geographic tbh

I dont think Kart feels particularly distant as there is a lot of cultural familiarity. She knew a lot about your community judging by the Kerala thread

Christians in our parts are usually Pentecostal/Protestant OBC communities but are a very small minority

For me though the first Syrian Christian I met was in the West, outside a Malabar migration family that had been in Kannur for generations and probably the same with Hindus from Central/South Kerala.

Kannur/Kasargod is very underdeveloped/economically destitute so its rare for people to migrate there from other parts of the state, whereas Cochin was bling bling for me when I visited a few years ago

In the west though I get asked over here if Im Mallu by the new gen, I say yes, then they ask what Church I belong to which initially baffled me not knowing about much about Kerala outside my own patch

All the Kerala associations here are from the Cochin/Kottayam/Travancore/Thrissur areas, my family never joined though we keep tight links via 'family gettogethers' back in Malabar every couple of years or meet the few distant family we have here.

Now we have an airport too which makes it much easier, previously it was an 7 hour drive from Bangalore or 6 hours from Calicut now its shortened to a 1 hour flight from Bangers

Do you guys visit much back home or are most of your communities in the West?
