I think that you have some Northeastern European ancestry.

EEF is a South European component. North European appearance is most likely determined by the component Steppe and EHG. The calculator is very good, thank you.

Not really, it is very much a pan-european component because all Europeans carry significant EEF and actually most of our mtdna is from EEFs. EEF ancestry is older in most parts of Europe than steppe admixture including Scandinavia and Central Europe. Also we got our light hairs and light skin probably from EEFs. Only light eyes were frequent among WHG/EHGs. Ironically the "nordic" phenotype was probably created by mixing with Globular Amphora/Funnel Beakers who were EEFs and genetically closest to Sardinians.

That quote doesn't say that working with base components is not ideal, it just says that distances can't be directly compared between all ethnic groups.

This doesn't get in the way of modeling ancestry, because it's easy to see when a fit improves for each ethnic group, and what overfitting looks like.

Sure, I'm not arguing that it gets in the way of modelling ancestry. However, base components alone result in high distances for most Europeans, outside of those who are at the tip of Southern Europe.

But it's the same with qpAdm, right? It looks like something is missing and there may be some ghost populations.

I looked at both your qpAdm_Europe2 and Europe2b and it seems that there is trouble modelling Polish or Greek people with Caucasus_HG or Armenia_EBA or Jordan_EBA, Lengyel_LN, Nganasan, Onge, Steppe_EBA, Western_HG and Yoruba.
For example, tail_prob of 31% for the former and 23% for the latter (improved to 41% with Armenia_EBA).
Under the same model, Ukrainians were getting 95% probability, Belarusians - 83%, CWC_Germany 81% for those ancestry proportions and population sources.

Do you have a newer run for Europe?
Am I reading this wrongly perhaps? If so then how is it supposed to be interpreted?
