Jats in India are a major community, they are a dominant community in rural India (Punjab, Haryana, some parts of UP, Rajasthan, Himachal).
I think there are also some Jatts in Madhya Pradesh (if I remember correctly)? I don't know the numbers. User prashantvaidwan might know.

I think there are more than 0.4 million Kashmiri origin persons in Pakistan though. I believe they have switched to speaking Punjabi or other languages instead of Kashmiri.

This study is mostly crap. It is pushing an agenda, out of India maybe? We know the IA samples are closer to Khatris and Punjabi Jats. Khatris and Saraswat Brahmins pushed the toolkit. Rors and Haryana jats look like IA folks with an additional wave of Steppe and then moved into mainland India.

thanks , decrease in population of baloch speaking is alarming , probably some get counted among seraikis, but government should take special initiative to preserve smaller languages especially when demographic balance of Balochistan is already in danger because of Afghan migration. Balochistan is truly a unique region in understanding genetics of South Asia.

I’m not surprised. It’s such a common Hindu Jaat clan. One of the two Rajasthani Jaats I convinced to join the Harappa project via 23andme is Sheoran. The Haryana ones I had submit their data to Harappa are a Beniwal and Dahiya.

Extremely unlikely that SW Pakistani pops harbor high Steppe most harbor lower levels of it and rather high levels of Iran_N ancestry ditto Western Sindhis, one of the Baloch samples Khana recently found has nil to noise level Steppe. I have seen a similar map in the past in the past for "Greater India". Though I don't get what bearing this has to this thread or the question at hand.
